📋About AI21 Labs

Updated June 15, 2026

AI21 Labs is an Israeli AI company founded in 2017 by Ori Goshen, Yoav Shoham, and Amnon Shashua. The company develops the Jamba model family using a novel hybrid SSM-Transformer architecture combining Mamba memory efficiency with Transformer quality for enterprise-grade long-context AI.

Jamba 2 (January 2026) is the latest release under Apache 2.0, available in 3 billion and 52 billion parameter (MoE) variants with 256,000 token context windows. The SSM-Transformer hybrid enables 2.5x faster inference on long contexts compared to pure Transformer models. Jamba is available on Amazon Bedrock, Azure AI, and Hugging Face.

AI21 launched Maestro (March 2025), an AI orchestration platform available on Amazon VPC. Notably, a widely reported $300 million Series D with Google and NVIDIA was never formally closed. In December 2025, NVIDIA was reportedly in advanced talks to acquire AI21 for $2-3 billion, though AI21 officially denied the reports. The company has approximately 227 employees and last confirmed valuation of $1.4 billion.
