Updated July 4, 2026Applied Intuition is an autonomy software company founded in 2017 with roots in commercial autonomous-vehicle software. Through its national-security arm, Applied Intuition Defense, it supplies an autonomy toolchain — the Axion autonomy stack, simulation, data tools, and on-vehicle software — that the military uses to build, test, and field its own autonomous ground and air systems.
In 2025 the Department of Defense's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office selected Applied Intuition to build the enterprise 'Autonomy Factory' on Axion. The company reports fielding autonomy on a military vehicle in about 10 days and demonstrating autonomous 'Launched Effects' with the Army and AEVEX. It expanded into air-combat autonomy with the February 2025 acquisition of EpiSci and partnered with SNC in December 2025 on Axion plus Expeditionary Area Air Defense.
Applied Intuition's dual-use, commercial background is a defining feature: rather than building a single weapon, it supplies the tooling militaries use to develop many autonomous systems. Its company-wide valuation was reported at roughly 15 billion dollars in 2025, a figure that should be treated as reported and unverified.
Honest framing: the tooling enables lethal autonomous systems, so human-control and accountability questions apply to fielded weapons. The '10-day fielding' figure is vendor-framed, and heavy reliance on simulation raises a genuine sim-to-real validation risk.
