Updated July 21, 2026Bloom Energy is a US clean-power company, founded in 2001 by K.R. Sridhar and headquartered in San Jose, California, that makes on-site electricity generators built around its solid oxide fuel cells — the Bloom Energy Server. The servers convert natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen into electricity through an electrochemical reaction rather than combustion, giving large power users their own generation without waiting years for a grid connection. That speed is why Bloom has become one of the most closely watched names in the race to power artificial-intelligence data centers, whose enormous and fast-growing electricity demand is outrunning the grid. In January 2026 Bloom signed an agreement worth 2.65 billion dollars with American Electric Power to deploy up to one gigawatt of fuel cells, and in April 2026 it expanded its partnership with Oracle into a master services agreement for up to 2.8 gigawatts of systems, positioning Bloom as a primary power supplier for a major AI-infrastructure operator. It also extended a long-running agreement with the data-center operator Equinix past one hundred megawatts of capacity. Bloom Energy trades on the New York Stock Exchange. Its relevance to AI is as an energy-infrastructure enabler of the data-center build-out — a power supplier and AI beneficiary, not a maker of AI software; its fuel cells are electrochemical hardware, not an AI product.
