📋About Bot Auto
Updated August 26, 2026Bot Auto is an autonomous-trucking startup founded in 2023 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, by Xiaodi Hou, a former chief executive of TuSimple. It set out to prove that a small, capital-efficient team could reach driverless commercial operations without the billions its rivals have raised — and in April 2026 it delivered what it describes as the US industry's first fully humanless commercial truckload, running freight between Houston and Dallas with no one in the cab.
Having raised only on the order of 40 million dollars, Bot Auto's thesis is efficiency: a lean Level 4 stack and a business model built around earning money per driverless mile as quickly as possible, rather than a long, expensive research program.
The honest framing: the driver-out milestone is a genuine technical achievement and a striking result for the funding level, but Bot Auto is very early and thinly capitalized relative to the sector. Its Level 4 autonomy is real; scaling it commercially on limited capital is the open question.
