📋About Comcast

Updated June 15, 2026

Comcast Corporation is the largest US cable-and-broadband provider by revenue and one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. The company has approximately $120 billion in annual revenue across Comcast Cable / Xfinity (US cable, broadband, and wireless), NBCUniversal (NBC, MSNBC, Peacock streaming, Universal Pictures, Universal theme parks), and Sky (the European pay-TV and broadband group acquired 2018 for $39 billion). Comcast was founded in 1963 by Ralph Roberts in Tupelo, Mississippi, and trades on NASDAQ as CMCSA with a market capitalization of approximately $170 billion as of 2026. The company employs approximately 184,000 workers globally.

The Xfinity broadband business serves approximately 32 million customers — the largest US residential-broadband subscriber base. Xfinity Mobile (operating as an MVNO over Verizon's network) has grown to approximately 7 million subscribers. NBCUniversal operates the NBC broadcast network, MSNBC and CNBC cable networks, the Peacock streaming service (~36 million subscribers as of 2025, with notable Big Ten Football and Premier League sports rights), Universal Pictures (the largest US film studio by 2024 box office), Universal Studios theme parks (with the new Universal Epic Universe park opening in Orlando 2025), and the Telemundo Spanish-language network. Sky Group operates pay-TV and broadband services across the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. The 2024 announcement of the Versant cable-network spin-off (separating MSNBC, CNBC, and several smaller cable networks into a separate publicly-traded entity) is the largest portfolio restructuring in Comcast's history.

Comcast's AI strategy spans the Xfinity broadband-and-customer-care operations, NBCUniversal content production and recommendation, and Universal Studios visitor-experience operations. Xfinity uses AI extensively for network operations (predictive maintenance, capacity planning), customer-service automation, and the Xfinity Voice Remote (one of the most-used voice-AI products in US households at over 30 million units). NBCUniversal applies AI to recommendation (Peacock, Sky), content moderation, and increasingly content-production workflows (visual effects, dubbing, localization). The company's SkyShowtime streaming venture in Europe and the Peacock platform both rely heavily on AI for personalization. Looking forward, Comcast faces continued cord-cutting pressure on the cable-TV business (mitigated by broadband and wireless growth) and the strategic question of how AI changes the balance between pay-TV, streaming, and the next-generation media-distribution landscape.
