Updated July 6, 2026Crusoe is a US AI-infrastructure company that builds and operates AI-optimized data centers and a GPU cloud, vertically integrated all the way down to power. Founded in 2018 in Denver, Colorado by Chase Lochmiller (CEO) and Cully Cavness (COO), Crusoe began by capturing wasted flare gas at remote oil wells to run mobile data centers, then pivoted to become one of the largest AI-native data-center developers in the United States.
Its flagship product, Crusoe Cloud, is a managed GPU cloud offering NVIDIA accelerators for AI training and inference, billed on demand or via reserved capacity. Crusoe describes itself as an "energy-first AI factory company," owning the full stack from power procurement and substation buildout through data-center construction to the cloud platform that runs on top.
Crusoe is the lead developer behind the Stargate campus in Abilene, Texas — a 1.2-gigawatt AI data center built for OpenAI alongside Oracle and SoftBank, one of the most powerful AI facilities in the world. The company supplies compute capacity to customers including OpenAI, Oracle, Meta, and Microsoft, and says its total development pipeline exceeds 40 gigawatts. Backed by Founders Fund, NVIDIA, and others, Crusoe has raised billions in equity and project financing; in mid-2026 it was reported to be in talks for a major new funding round that would roughly triple its prior valuation, underscoring how much capital is flowing into the physical backbone of the AI buildout.
