Updated June 21, 2026Dotmo is an early-stage AI company spun out of Snap in June 2026 to build generative-AI models for interactive gaming and immersive entertainment. It was formed from Snap's internal generative-AI video team, which moved into the independent company along with a license to adapt Snap's proprietary video-generation technology for gaming platforms.
The spinoff is a cost-and-focus play. Snap cited the high cost of developing frontier generative-video and gaming models as the reason for moving the work into a standalone entity. In exchange for the team and the technology license, Snap holds a large equity stake in Dotmo; the company may seek outside funding later. Bobby Murphy, Snap's co-founder and chief technology officer, is Dotmo's lead investor and holds a significant personal stake, while continuing in his Snap role.
As of mid-2026, Dotmo is pre-product — it has a team, a technology license, and a stated direction, but has not yet shipped or announced a specific product, pricing, or availability. Its thesis is that generative AI can produce interactive, playable game experiences rather than only linear video, a frontier that remains technically unproven at scale. Dotmo is best understood today as a company to watch rather than a product to use.
