Ideon Technologies is a subsurface-intelligence company with an unusual physics at its core. Its REVEAL platform uses muon tomography — measuring naturally occurring cosmic-ray particles that pass through the earth — combined with AI to build 3D density maps of the ground, effectively an X-ray for orebodies hundreds of meters deep. Because denser rock (like a metal-rich deposit) absorbs more muons, the technique can image mineralization that conventional surveys miss, helping miners target drilling far more precisely. A spinout of Canada's TRIUMF particle-physics lab, Ideon anchored its commercial traction with a five-year enterprise partnership with Rio Tinto (2025) across several major operations. It is a genuine, novel AI-and-physics vendor; the honest framing is that it is smaller and newer than the automation giants, and its imaging guides drilling rather than replacing it — a distinctive teaching example of AI applied to an entirely different sensing method.
