📋About Komatsu

Updated July 2, 2026

Komatsu (OTC ADR: KMTUY; Tokyo: 6301) is the world's second-largest maker of construction and mining equipment and the pioneer of autonomous mining haulage: its FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System put the first commercial driverless mining trucks into operation in 2008. Since then FrontRunner trucks have hauled well over ten billion tonnes, and in 2026 Komatsu reached a milestone of its 1,000th autonomous ultra-class truck, deployed at operations including Barrick's Nevada gold mines, alongside advances such as autonomous trolley-assist for electrified haulage. Komatsu is, with Caterpillar, one of the two at-scale leaders in autonomous surface mining. It is a genuine AI-and-autonomy vendor; the technology is mature and productive, and its uptake tracks global mining investment and the shift toward automated, and increasingly electrified, fleets.
