Updated June 15, 2026Kuaishou Technology is a Chinese short-video platform and social media company, often described as the main domestic competitor to ByteDance's Douyin (TikTok's Chinese counterpart). Founded in 2011 by Su Hua and Cheng Yixiao, the publicly traded company serves over 600 million monthly active users.
Kuaishou developed Kling, a text-to-video AI model that quickly gained global attention upon release for its ability to generate high-quality, realistic video clips from text descriptions. Kling can produce videos up to 2 minutes in length with consistent character appearance, realistic physics, and complex scene compositions — competing directly with OpenAI's Sora and Google's Veo. The model was made available through Kuaishou's Klingai.com platform.
Beyond video generation, Kuaishou uses AI extensively for its core short-video platform — recommendation algorithms, content moderation, live-streaming features, and e-commerce integrations. The company's AI research focuses on computer vision, NLP, and the real-time processing of massive video streams. Kuaishou's success with Kling demonstrates that Chinese tech companies can produce frontier AI capabilities that compete with or exceed Western counterparts in specific domains.
