📋About Landing AI

Updated July 19, 2026

Landing AI is an AI-native industrial-vision company founded in 2017 by Andrew Ng — the Stanford professor and Google Brain and Coursera co-founder — and headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Where Cognex grew into deep learning from a hardware base, Landing AI started from the model and built everything around it.

Its flagship product, LandingLens, is a visual-inspection platform where the deep-learning model is the entire product — there is no rule-based engine underneath. It is built around Ng's "data-centric AI" philosophy: instead of collecting huge labeled datasets, engineers improve a small, high-quality set of example images, and the platform trains an accurate defect-detection model from as few as a few dozen samples. Landing AI has also pushed into large vision models that can be prompted to find defects with even less labeled data. In 2026 it partnered with Snowflake to run LandingLens natively inside the Snowflake Cortex data platform — a partnership and investment, not an acquisition.

The honest framing: Landing AI is the credible AI-native counterweight to the machine-vision incumbents. Its bet is that low-data, model-first inspection wins where defects are rare and hard to pre-specify — genuinely differentiated AI, though as a software-first company it depends on customers' existing cameras and factory infrastructure.
