📋About Leidos

Updated September 16, 2026

Leidos is a large US defense, intelligence, and government technology-services company, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and spun out of SAIC in 2013. It delivers systems integration, sensors, and software across defense, health, and civil markets.

Within the US Golden Dome effort it participates through the SHIELD acquisition vehicle and missile-defense work spanning sensors, hypersonics, and systems integration. Distinct from the pure hardware primes, Leidos also runs a genuine AI and machine-learning services practice, applying AI to sensor data, logistics, and decision support for government customers.

The honest framing: Leidos is a services-and-integration firm — an AI adopter and integrator whose value is delivering and operating AI within complex government programs rather than selling a proprietary AI product. Its Golden Dome role, like the program overall, is early and part of a contested, still-forming architecture.
