Machina Labs is a manufacturing-AI company founded in 2019 and headquartered in Los Angeles, reinventing how metal parts are made. Traditional sheet-metal forming relies on custom dies and tooling that are expensive and slow to change; Machina replaces them with robots and AI, so a new part is a software change rather than a new physical die.

Its RoboCraftsman system pairs two seven-axis robots with machine-learning models that incrementally shape sheet metal, closing the loop between the desired geometry and the robot's motions — the ML is what makes "software-defined" forming possible. In February 2026 Machina raised a 124 million dollar Series C with investors including Toyota's Woven Capital and Lockheed Martin Ventures, and is building a large-scale intelligent factory aimed at aerospace and defense.

The honest framing: Machina's genuine AI is the learned, closed-loop control that makes die-less robotic forming accurate. Its aerospace-and-defense focus reflects where flexible, low-volume, high-value metal parts matter most — and where the economics of skipping custom tooling are strongest.
