📋About May Mobility

Updated July 22, 2026

May Mobility is an autonomous-vehicle company founded in 2017 and headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, focused on shuttles and microtransit rather than open robotaxi hailing. Backed by Toyota and NTT, it has delivered more than five hundred thousand commercial rides across the US and Japan, and in 2026 signed a roughly 750 million dollar deal with ECARX for purpose-built Level 4 robotaxis manufactured outside China for US compliance, alongside Uber and Lyft partnerships.

Its technical signature is an autonomy approach it calls Multi-Policy Decision Making, which reasons over many possible futures to choose safe actions — deployed first on lower-speed shuttles and now scaling toward robotaxis.

The honest framing: May Mobility's autonomy is genuine, load-bearing AI, and its shuttle-first, Toyota-backed path has produced real commercial ride volume. Its expansion into robotaxis is underway rather than proven at scale, and like the whole sector, the economics of driverless passenger transport are still being worked out.
