Meituan

Meituan is one of China's largest technology companies, founded in 2010 by Wang Xing and headquartered in Beijing. Best known as the country's dominant local-services platform — food delivery, restaurant reviews, travel booking, and on-demand logistics — Meituan serves hundreds of millions of users and operates one of the world's largest real-time delivery networks. It is publicly listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

For an AI Pro Playbook reader, Meituan matters as an unexpectedly serious AI lab. The company applies machine learning at vast scale to dispatch and route its delivery fleet, forecast demand, and test autonomous delivery drones — and it has invested in frontier Chinese model labs, including a lead role in Moonshot AI's funding. In 2026 it stepped into frontier model development directly with its open-source LongCat model line.

LongCat-2.0, released in June 2026, is the company's most ambitious model yet: a 1.6 trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts system for agentic coding, open-sourced on Hugging Face and — notably — trained and run entirely on domestically produced Chinese chips. Meituan says it is the first trillion-parameter model to complete full training and inference on a 50,000-card domestic cluster, a milestone in China's push to build frontier AI without Western silicon.
