Updated June 15, 2026NuScale Power is the leading developer of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), specifically designed to provide clean, reliable power for AI data centers and other energy-intensive facilities. Founded in 2007 based on technology developed at Oregon State University, NuScale went public in 2022.
NuScale's VOYGR power plant design uses small, factory-built reactor modules (each producing 77 MW) that can be combined in configurations up to 924 MW. The modular approach offers faster construction timelines, lower upfront costs, and flexible scaling compared to traditional large nuclear plants. NuScale signed a 6 GW deal with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and has additional agreements for deployments in the US and internationally, with first commercial reactors expected between 2027-2030.
The explosive growth of AI data centers has created an enormous demand for reliable, carbon-free baseload power — a need that intermittent renewables alone cannot meet. NuScale's SMR technology is specifically positioned to serve this market, providing 24/7 clean energy that can be sited near data center clusters. The company competes with Oklo and traditional nuclear developers to power the next generation of AI infrastructure.
