Updated June 15, 2026Paige.AI (Pathology AI Guidance Engine) is a pathology AI company spun out of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2017, building on more than a decade of academic research into deep-learning analysis of digital pathology slides. The company has raised approximately $220 million across multiple funding rounds, with backers including Goldman Sachs, Healthcare Venture Partners, Casdin Capital, and Breyer Capital. Paige is privately held and headquartered in New York City with significant operations in Europe.
The company's flagship product, Paige Prostate Detect, was the first AI software cleared by the US FDA for cancer detection in digital pathology — receiving De Novo authorization in September 2021 for use as a clinical-decision-support tool for pathologists reviewing prostate biopsies. The product has since been deployed at major reference laboratories and academic medical centers worldwide, including in Europe under CE Mark approval. Paige expanded its FDA-cleared product line in subsequent years to cover additional cancer types and tissue regions.
Beyond clinical decision support, Paige has built one of the largest digital-pathology image datasets in the world (sourced through MSK and partner academic centers) and has commercialized this through Paige PathAI Foundation Models — pre-trained foundation models for pathology image analysis that can be fine-tuned for specific cancer types or research questions. The company's strategic partners include Microsoft Azure, the National Cancer Institute, and several major pharmaceutical companies who use Paige's platform for biomarker discovery and clinical-trial enrichment. Paige competes with PathAI, Ibex Medical Analytics, and the imaging arms of GE Healthcare and Roche in the digital-pathology AI segment.
