📋About Physical Intelligence

Updated June 15, 2026

Physical Intelligence (PI) is a robotics AI company founded in 2024 by Karol Hausman (former Google DeepMind), Sergey Levine (UC Berkeley), and others. The company has raised $1.1 billion total ($70 million seed + $400 million Series A + $600 million Series B) at a $5.6 billion valuation (November 2025).

PI develops foundation models for general-purpose robotic manipulation — a single AI model (pi-0) that can control 7+ different robot types across 68+ manipulation tasks. The latest version, pi-0.6 with RECAP (November 2025), uses reinforcement learning from human corrections, doubling throughput and halving failure rates. Demonstrations include 18-hour continuous espresso making, folding 50 novel laundry items, and assembling 59 boxes in a real chocolate factory.

PI's open-sourced pi-0 weights (via the openpi GitHub repository) make it the leading open-source robotics foundation model. Investors include Jeff Bezos, Alphabet (CapitalG), Sequoia, NVIDIA NVentures, Thrive Capital, and OpenAI — a remarkable coalition backing the vision of general-purpose robot AI.
