📋About Sanofi
Updated September 19, 2026Sanofi is a French pharmaceutical group headquartered in Paris, listed on Euronext Paris and traded in the United States as American depositary shares (Nasdaq: SNY). It is best known for its flu and pediatric vaccines and for Dupixent, the eczema and asthma antibody it developed with Regeneron. It appears on the platform not as an AI vendor but as a large pharmaceutical AI adopter: it sells no AI product, and its models serve its own research, manufacturing and sales work.
Its pattern is all-in, the company's own word from June 2023, when then chief executive Paul Hudson set the goal of becoming the first pharma company powered by artificial intelligence at scale. It runs on two tracks. The first is software for its own workforce. Sanofi says its internal app plai, built with the analytics company Aily Labs, is used by 20,000 employees every day, and that its manufacturing and supply teams use it to predict 80 percent of stock disruptions. In October 2025 its chief digital officer, Emmanuel Frenehard, said an internal assistant called Concierge, powered by Anthropic's Claude, is used daily by roughly 60,000 employees. In June 2026 Sanofi added a separate sales agent, Concierge for Field, built on Snowflake's data platform to prepare representatives for physician visits.
The second track is drug discovery bought from specialists rather than built. In January 2022 Sanofi paid Exscientia 100 million dollars upfront in a deal worth up to about 5.2 billion dollars for as many as fifteen AI-designed small molecules. Exscientia is now part of Recursion, which reported in early 2026 that five program packages had been accepted and 134 million dollars paid in total. Sanofi also took a 180 million dollar equity stake in the French AI company Owkin in November 2021, and in June 2026 signed a five-year license for Owkin's K Pro system to build research agents. Its largest recent bets are on Earendil Labs, whose machine-learning antibody platform produced two bispecific antibodies Sanofi licensed in April 2025 for 125 million dollars upfront, followed in January 2026 by a discovery collaboration worth up to 2.56 billion dollars.
A third, smaller thread runs through OpenAI. In May 2024 Sanofi formed a three-way collaboration with OpenAI and the drug developer Formation Bio to fine-tune models on Sanofi data. Its first product, Muse, a patient-recruitment tool unveiled in November 2024, went first into Sanofi's late-stage multiple sclerosis trials. In-house, Sanofi says its CodonBERT language model for messenger RNA design has cut design time in half.
The honest framing: Sanofi's value still rests on Dupixent and its vaccine franchise, and AI is a lever applied on top. The measured results so far are operational, meaning adoption counts, forecasting accuracy and time saved, while the drug-discovery bets remain intentions. By Recursion's own account, no program from the Exscientia deal had yet reached development-candidate stage in early 2026, and most of the Earendil money is milestones not yet earned. The program has also outlived its sponsor: Hudson left in February 2026 and Belén Garijo took over in April, yet the Owkin and Snowflake deals were signed after he went. Among peers, Gilead procures specialists, Eli Lilly productized its own models, Moderna built hundreds in-house, Merck & Co. standardized on one platform with Google Cloud, and Novo Nordisk spreads work across several vendors. Sanofi is distinctive for pairing staff-wide AI tools with a large portfolio of licensed AI-discovered drug programs.
