📋About Symbotic

Updated September 2, 2026

Symbotic is a warehouse-automation company founded in 2007 and headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, that designs and installs end-to-end systems for high-throughput distribution centers — the structure, the fleets of autonomous bots, and the software that orchestrates them. It trades publicly on the Nasdaq under the ticker SYM, reported fiscal-2025 revenue around 2.25 billion dollars, and generates roughly eighty-five percent of revenue from Walmart, its largest customer and an investor. In February 2026 it acquired Fox Robotics, adding autonomous forklifts to its portfolio.

AI and computer vision are genuinely part of the product — bots perceive and handle individual cases, and software optimizes storage and retrieval across the whole system. But the honest framing matters: Symbotic sells a large integrated mechanical system, and AI is one layer within it rather than the sole value proposition. It is best understood as the public pure-play name in US warehouse automation and an AI-enabled system integrator, not a pure-AI company.

For learners, Symbotic is the name to know for how AI-enabled automation reshapes the distribution center — with a clear-eyed view that scale, structure, and orchestration matter as much as the AI.
