United Parcel Service (UPS) is the largest US package delivery company by revenue and one of the largest logistics operators globally and approximately 22 million packages delivered daily. Founded in 1907 by James E. Casey in Seattle as the American Messenger Company, UPS trades on NYSE as UPS. The company employs approximately 540,000 US workers (and 470,000 globally), making it one of the largest US private-sector employers. UPS operates the world's largest fleet of brown delivery trucks plus a major airline (UPS Airlines, the largest cargo airline in the world by revenue ton miles).

UPS's segments include US Domestic Package, International Package, and Supply Chain & Freight (formerly UPS Freight, the LTL business sold to TForce Freight in 2021; the segment is now primarily forwarding and logistics services). The company's 2024 announcement of the planned $5 billion in cost reductions and the network-modernization "Network of the Future" plan signaled major operational restructuring including over 12,000 management-level layoffs. UPS's 2023 contract negotiation with the Teamsters (the union representing 340,000+ UPS workers) produced a substantial wage agreement that has shaped the company's cost structure.

UPS has been an AI-leader in route optimization since the 2008 launch of ORION (On-Road Integrated Optimization and Navigation), which uses ML to optimize daily route plans for hundreds of thousands of drivers — UPS estimates ORION saves approximately 10 million gallons of fuel and 100 million miles of driving annually. The newer DeliveryDefense AI predicts which packages are at risk of being marked "Address Not Found" or other delivery exceptions. UPS Smart Logistics Network, the broader AI-driven network management initiative, optimizes hub operations, fleet allocation, and customer-service routing. Customer-service AI has been deployed for tier-1 inquiry handling. The 2024 partnership with Aurora Innovation for autonomous-trucking pilots represents the company's strategic positioning for autonomous-trucking deployment in the long-haul middle-mile. UPS has also invested in drone delivery (Flight Forward subsidiary, FAA Part 135 certified), though commercial scale remains limited.
