Windward

Windward is a maritime-AI company that applies machine learning to global vessel-tracking (AIS) and trade data to assess risk — flagging sanctions evasion, "dark" activity where ships go quiet, and other suspicious behavior. Formerly listed in London under the ticker WNWD, it was taken private by FTV Capital in early 2025, so it no longer trades publicly.

The genuine AI is behavioral modeling and anomaly detection: learning what normal vessel behavior looks like and flagging the patterns that signal risk, used by governments, insurers, and compliance teams.

The honest framing: Windward is a load-bearing-AI company — the behavioral risk models are the product. It is the maritime counterpart to the supply-chain-risk platforms, focused on the who-and-what of ocean traffic. (Now privately held after its take-private.)
