Otter.ai is a meeting transcription and AI assistant platform that automatically records, transcribes, and summarizes meetings across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Founded in 2016 by Sam Liang (former Google engineer) and Yun Fu, the company says 40 million people have used it.

Otter's AI generates real-time transcripts with speaker identification, automatically produces meeting summaries with key takeaways and action items, and allows users to search across their entire meeting history. OtterPilot, the AI meeting assistant, joins calls automatically, captures slides, and generates notes — enabling participants to focus on the conversation rather than note-taking. The platform also supports live transcription for in-person meetings and lectures.

Otter competes with Fireflies.ai, Granola, Read AI and built-in AI features from Zoom and Microsoft in the meeting intelligence space. In October 2026 it took 320 million dollars from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, which pays for a company's marketing in exchange for a share of the returns rather than equity, to fund enterprise sales and international growth. The company's early focus on transcription accuracy and its large user base have established it as one of the most recognized brands in AI meeting tools, though competition has intensified as video conferencing platforms add their own AI summarization features.
