Meta said with its third-quarter results on October 21 that it will issue a new class of non-voting shares, trading from 2027, to fund AI spending, acquisitions and staff pay. It now expects capital spending of between 135 billion and 145 billion dollars this year. Mark Zuckerberg said Muse, the agent Meta launched in September, has more than 10 million users, about a quarter of whom use it daily, and that over a quarter of engaged users who shop through it average more than 200 dollars a purchase. He expects Muse to eventually earn more per user than Facebook and Instagram do, by taking a cut of the commerce it handles.
Security firm Claroc said it found 6,800 shared Muse conversations without being given a single link, because each share address put the chat's title in the web domain itself, where public DNS records log it. Among the few hundred it opened were a loan application, a company's internal revenue review and a staff vacation calendar. Meta told Ars Technica it has paused sharing while it reviews the report. It is the second security problem for Muse in a month, after a September flaw let any app on a Mac take over a user's account, and it lands as the agent passed 10 million US downloads in 40 days, according to Sensor Tower.
Meta Superintelligence Labs released Muse Wonder and a larger Muse Wonder Full on Monday, the company's first models aimed at the top of the field rather than at speed. Meta's own testing puts them level with Claude Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra, and ahead of both on a memory benchmark, a skill Meta calls Active Memory: carrying what matters about a user across conversations for weeks. Muse Wonder costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output through the Meta Model API, close to Opus 5.5 pricing, while Muse Wonder Full is limited to Muse Code subscribers and is not offered through the API. Both were trained at Meta's Prometheus data center in Ohio and will later power the Muse agent, starting with subscribers. Meta has not announced open weights for either model.
Apple told developers it will add new controls so that people can grant an app full disk access on macOS only through "very explicit user action." The permission, built for backup apps, lets an app read everything on a Mac, including mail, messages and browsing history. "As AI agents become increasingly capable and autonomous, the risks associated with this level of access will grow substantially," Apple wrote. It named no app, but the notice came two weeks after Meta's Muse agent surprised a columnist by referring to a private Messages thread, and Meta said Muse reads Messages only when full disk access is granted. Apple gave no date for the change.
Meta has published open-source software kits that connect its Muse agent to hobbyist hardware, such as an ESP32 board or a Raspberry Pi, so people can wire it to displays, buttons and sensors. Its examples include an E Ink reminder screen and a stick that puts Muse on a television. Meta is also giving away 5,000 units of a Muse Home Link device that uses community-built skills to switch on lights, control a TV or print a document, with a waitlist open now and shipping due this month. Meta warns builders to "proceed at your own risk."
Tech YouTuber Matt Robb says Meta's Muse agent, which he had authorized to answer his Facebook Marketplace messages, shared his home address with a stranger, agreed to a lowball price, and only told him after the buyer had come and gone. Robb had given the agent the address for pickups but never said it could share it, and Muse's own summary admits it never asked for consent. Robb says he had clicked "Allow Always" on a permissions prompt, and that Meta plans to make sharing permissions clearer. It is the latest of several privacy and security problems since Muse launched this month, and it landed the same day Meta began offering Muse to small businesses.
Meta Enterprise Platform will sell Meta's AI to businesses, starting with the Muse agent, a business agent and a coding tool. Chirantan "CJ" Desai leaves MongoDB, where he had been chief executive for less than a year, to lead it as chief enterprise platform officer reporting to Mark Zuckerberg, who called it the "next major pillar" of Meta's business. Meta gave no price, launch date or named customers. MongoDB shares fell more than 17 percent, and former chief executive Dev Ittycheria returns on an interim basis.
Meta Muse, the personal AI agent Meta launched on September 8, reached about 3.4 million downloads by Thursday, according to Sensor Tower, and has held the number one spot on the US App Store since September 18. In its first ten days, downloads grew an average of 55 percent a day, against 24 percent for ChatGPT at the same stage. Estimates vary by firm, from about 2.3 million at Appfigures to 4.3 million at Apptopia, and the app is only available in the US and Canada. Sensor Tower says daily users rose 27 percent the day after Meta Connect ended.
At Connect, Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first AI glasses without a camera, starting at $349 and weighing 43 grams, a direct answer to criticism of people covertly filming others with its camera models. Mark Zuckerberg closed the keynote with Muse Charm, a palm-sized device with a small screen, microphones and a fingerprint sensor that wakes the Muse agent without a phone; it appears to carry a small camera of its own, and Meta says it ships in December. Muse is also coming to Meta's glasses, which gain an FDA-cleared hearing enhancement feature for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss later this year, sold as a $149 add-on. The headline hardware, a pair of lightweight VR glasses, arrives in spring 2027.
macOS security researcher Patrick Wardle disclosed a zero-day flaw in the Mac app for Meta's Muse assistant that lets any locally installed app or terminal command redirect where Muse sends voice dictation. Pointing it at an attacker's server hands over the token that controls the user's Muse account, and with it an agent users have typically given access to email, calendars, WhatsApp, files, the camera and the microphone. Meta did not answer questions from Ars Technica. About 12 hours earlier, Amazon began blocking Muse from shopping on its store, telling users it was an unauthorized agent that violates Amazon's conditions of use. The trouble comes as Muse takes off: Apptopia estimates it drew 1.8 million iPhone downloads in the US and Canada in its first 12 days, against 1.3 million for ChatGPT over the same stretch of its launch.
Jason Aten, a contributing editor at Inc Magazine, posted screenshots on Threads showing Meta's Muse assistant asking him about a conversation in Messages that he says he never gave it access to. Pressed on how it knew, Muse said it had seen notification previews rather than message history, then conceded: "Honest answer: I can't give you the exact plumbing." David Singleton of Meta Superintelligence Labs replied that Muse syncs Messages only after a user explicitly enables it, that the Mac app requires full disk access, and that the assistant had simply described its own internals wrongly — "That's on us." The access was very likely authorized. The problem is that an assistant wired into Messages, Calendar and Notes could not tell its own user which of them it was reading.
Meta rolled the Meta One subscriptions it launched in the US in May out globally, with more than 50 features across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI and 15 million subscriptions and trials so far. Individuals pay $7.99 for Core or $19.99 for Premium, which bundle the three app subscriptions with more image and video generation from the Muse models and heavier use of tools like Instagram's Restyle; the new creator and business plans run from $14.99 to $499 a month and add a verified badge, a bold follow button, higher search ranking and a WhatsApp business agent. Meta declined to tell TechCrunch what the AI usage limits are, saying they vary by country, surface and system conditions, and says the core Meta AI experience stays free.
Meta introduced Muse, a US-only personal agent that connects to a user's email, calendar, payments, health, smart home and shopping accounts and then acts on them, booking travel, filling forms and checking out through Link by Stripe. It runs on Muse Spark, Meta's frontier model — the agent and the model share the Muse name but are separate products. Muse is free with paid tiers at 20 and 100 dollars a month, and a payment card is required to start. It arrives less than two weeks after Meta settled multistate social media claims for 18 billion dollars, which is the trust question the launch has to answer.
