What Is Claude Slides?

Claude Slides turns a request into a drafted presentation you can edit, present or export. It launched in beta on September 16, 2026, alongside Claude Docs and the merge of Claude Cowork into the main Claude interface.

The problem it addresses is the last mile. Assistants have been able to outline a deck for years; what they could not do was hand you something you could actually stand up and present, which meant every generated outline became a manual rebuild in PowerPoint or Google Slides. Claude Slides produces the deck itself and gives you two exits: present from Claude, or download it.

Core Capabilities

• Draft from a request. Ask for a presentation and Claude builds the slides rather than describing them.
• Ask for changes, or make them yourself. You can prompt for revisions or edit the deck directly.
• Present straight from Claude. No export step required if you are presenting from the machine you built it on.
• Export to PowerPoint or PDF. This is the load-bearing feature for most organizations — a deck that cannot leave the tool it was built in is a deck most people cannot use at work.
• One shareable link. Anything made with Claude Slides, Docs or Design lives at a single link that opens on a phone.
• Inherits conversation context. Because the September merge put every capability inside one Claude, a deck can be built from a thread that already has the underlying research, files and connectors.

Pricing

Anthropic has said the merge Slides shipped with is rolling out to Pro and Max first, with more plans to follow, so treat the plan availability above as the launch state.

Strengths

• PowerPoint export is the difference between a demo and a tool. A generated deck that exports cleanly can enter a workflow that already exists; one that cannot, cannot.
• The research and the deck share a context. Building a presentation from the conversation that produced the analysis removes the step where a human re-types findings into slides.
• Two exits, no lock-in trap at launch. Present in place, or take the file.
• Editable rather than regenerate-only. You are not stuck re-prompting to fix one bullet.

Limitations and Considerations

• Beta, and design quality is the open question. Anthropic has not published detail on templates, brand systems, theming or how much control you have over layout — and for presentations specifically, that is most of what separates a usable deck from a rebuild.
• No free tier. Paid plans only, which is a meaningful gap against Google Slides.
• Off by default in organizations. An Enterprise administrator has to enable it.
• A new destination rather than AI in your existing tool. Microsoft puts Copilot inside PowerPoint and Google puts Gemini inside Slides, both where corporate decks already live and where brand templates are already configured. Claude Slides asks you to build somewhere else and export back.
• Claude Design already overlapped here. Claude Design has generated presentation slides since April 2026. Anthropic says Design keeps working as before if you use it on its own, but the boundary between the two is not clearly drawn at launch.

When to choose alternatives:

• Strict brand templates or corporate theming → PowerPoint with Copilot, or Google Slides
• Design-led decks where layout control is the point → Claude Design, Figma, or a dedicated deck tool
• You are on a free plan → Claude Slides is not available to you
