Major US commercial-fishing companies include Trident Seafoods (the largest US seafood company, headquartered in Seattle), Pacific Seafood, American Seafoods, Channel Fish, and Bumble Bee Foods. The global aquaculture giants are dominated by salmon-farming companies — Mowi (Norwegian, the largest globally), Cermaq, Lerøy Seafood, SalMar, plus the Chilean aquaculture cluster (Multiexport, AquaChile). US aquaculture is a smaller industry — primarily catfish in the South, oysters in the Pacific Northwest and Chesapeake, plus emerging shrimp and tilapia operations. Aquaculture is the only seafood-production category growing globally — wild-capture fishing has been at peak yield since the 1990s due to fish-stock pressure.
