Anthropic files for IPO + Alphabet's $80 billion AI raise

Anthropic submitted a confidential draft registration statement to the SEC on June 1, the first formal step toward an initial public offering. The filing follows its recent $65 billion Series H and values the company at $965 billion, with an annualized revenue run-rate that has reportedly climbed to $47 billion from $9 billion at the end of 2025. Share count, pricing, and timing remain undecided, and the move sets up an IPO race with rival OpenAI.

Alphabet unveiled a plan to raise $80 billion through equity offerings to fund AI infrastructure and compute — its largest capital raise to date. The package pairs $30 billion in underwritten public offerings with a $40 billion at-the-market program, plus a $10 billion private placement from Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. Alphabet expects 2026 capital spending of $180 billion to $190 billion, and says 2027 will rise significantly.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed an 83-page complaint against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging ChatGPT contributed to multiple violent incidents — including a mass shooting at Florida State University whose perpetrator allegedly consulted the chatbot beforehand. The suit claims OpenAI ignored internal and external safety warnings and made misrepresentations while racing to win the AI market, and that it harmed minors through data collection. It is the first state-led lawsuit tying ChatGPT to violent acts, distinct from the civil suits already brought by individual families.

Attackers hijacked verified Instagram accounts — including the Obama-era White House handle and a US Space Force chief master sergeant's profile — by simply asking Meta's AI support assistant to add a new email to the target account. The bot sent a verification code to the attacker's address and then offered a password reset, never checking identity. Security reporter Brian Krebs noted the trick fails against any account using multi-factor authentication; Meta says it has since fixed the flaw.

WindBorne Systems released WeatherMesh-6, an AI forecasting model the company says is as accurate five days out as a traditional forecast is one day ahead, particularly for surface temperatures. The model produces hourly forecasts at 3-kilometer resolution across Europe and the US, outpacing the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. WindBorne's edge comes from roughly 400 of its own weather balloons feeding live data into the model from 15 launch sites worldwide.

OpenAI's frontier models and its Codex coding agent are now generally available on Amazon Bedrock, graduating from the limited preview that opened in April. GPT-5.5 runs in AWS's US East region and GPT-5.4 in US East and US West, callable through the Responses API with pricing that matches OpenAI's first-party rates. The move lets AWS customers reach OpenAI models inside their existing security, logging, and compliance controls — a notable thaw between OpenAI and a cloud rival to its main backer, Microsoft.

At Computex, Intel detailed Crescent Island, a data-center GPU built on its Arc Xe3P architecture and aimed at AI inference. Partner cards can carry up to 480 gigabytes of LPDDR5X memory — more than Nvidia's and AMD's flagships — while skipping the scarce, expensive high-bandwidth memory those chips rely on, which Intel says makes the card cheaper to produce and run on a 350-watt air cooler. Intel is targeting a second-half 2026 launch as it tries to chip away at Nvidia's data-center lead.
