Anthropic publishes its distillation logs + OpenAI's Agents API

A new Anthropic threat intelligence report attributes distillation campaigns with high confidence to Alibaba, Moonshot AI, DeepSeek, Zhipu, Xiaomi, SenseTime and MiniMax. A joint advisory from three US agencies asserted this pattern two days earlier; what is new here is the platform's own telemetry. Alibaba ran more than 151 million exchanges between May and July, peaking near three million a day across thousands of fraudulent accounts, to capture the chain-of-thought reasoning behind Opus. Moonshot and DeepSeek went further, silently routing their own customers' requests to Claude and keeping the transcripts, exposing names, live credentials and corporate data to a third party those users never chose.

Developers can now create a cloud agent in a single call by naming a task, a model, the tools it may use and where it runs. OpenAI hosts and maintains the harness itself, handling context management, tool use and subagents, and will either run the agent in its own sandbox or on the customer's infrastructure. This concedes a real piece of ground: the hard part of shipping an agent has been the scaffolding around the model rather than the model, and OpenAI is now selling that scaffolding instead of leaving it to open-source frameworks. The API is in public beta.

Complaints to the United Kingdom's housing ombudsman rose from 2,600 in 2022 to just over 7,000 in 2025, and the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau saw a fivefold increase over the same period. Researcher Chris Schmitz documented 84 such surges across 11 jurisdictions in a paper presented at the AI Ethics and Society conference, including Brazilian judicial petitions and German parliamentary petitions. The finding cuts against the spam framing: the vast majority of filings come from people who were always entitled to claim and simply could not navigate the paperwork before.

Andreas Thom posted on Mastodon that his own exchanges with ChatGPT may have fed one of the ten mathematical results OpenAI announced in August, calling the company's silence about its training data dishonest. OpenAI's write-up of that result, on non-sofic groups, was criticized for omitting recent work by Thom and Gabor Kun, and was quietly amended afterwards. He is the second researcher in a week to raise this, following New York University's Tristan Buckmaster, whose objection ran alongside the Navier-Stokes announcement.

The label signed a multiyear licensing agreement letting listeners draw on its catalog to make remixes, mashups and new takes on tracks, with artists choosing whether to take part. The platform will stay separate from ElevenLabs' existing music generator. This is a different deal from the Suno model that shipped a day earlier on Warner and BMG catalogs; Universal already has arrangements with Udio, Spotify, Nvidia and Klay. Taken together, the majors have moved within a year from suing generative music companies to licensing them.

Pocket FM says its annualized run rate reached 500 million dollars, double where it stood a year ago, and that AI now produces 93 percent of its catalog and 99 percent of new releases. The company puts the saving at roughly 80 times, with 100 hours of audio that once took a year now produced in a day. About 70 percent of revenue comes from the United States, sold as episode unlocks rather than subscriptions, and the business is profitable on an adjusted basis while raising fresh money, at a valuation of about two billion dollars.

SWE-2 is built on Moonshot AI's Kimi K3, and Cognition reports 73.0 on DeepSWE 1.1 against 67.4 for Claude Fable 5.1, landing within a few points of GPT-6 Astra at roughly a quarter of the cost. It also claims 58 percent fewer turns and 81 percent lower cost than its own previous model. Every one of those figures is vendor-reported. It ships first in Devin Desktop and the command-line tool. The base model is the quiet story: a well-funded US lab has built its flagship on open weights from Moonshot, one of the labs in Anthropic's report, which does not say which Moonshot models the harvested data trained.

The app opens with Alt plus Space from anywhere in the operating system and carries Gmail and Drive access, Nano Banana image generation, Gemini Omni video and the Gemini Spark agent. It is a global release and a free download, with some features gated behind a paid Google AI subscription. The placement is the point: Google's assistant is now one keystroke away on Microsoft's own platform, where Copilot has had a dedicated hardware key and first-party placement largely to itself.
